The stress test is a provocation examination to demonstrate heart function abnormalities. The examination is performed to diagnose the cause of chest pain or to evaluate efficacy of the treatment of previously diagnosed coronary artery disease or myocardial infarction. This test is also helpful in defining physical efficiency in patients with circulatory failure or arterial hypertension as well as in subjects who need evaluation of their health condition e.g. because of their work type or specific sports activity. The following complications can occur during the test: abnormal blood pressure, fainting, ECG changes indicative of heart “overload”, arrhythmias and even “heart attack” (according to statistics, myocardial infarction or sudden death occurs in 1 in 10000 stress tests, i.e. with 0.01% incidence). Therefore the test is carried out with full reanimation support by appropriately trained medical personnel.
